Description
Ankle foot orthoses (AFOs) are a common treatment option for the care of persons with physical and neurological disorders. Although orthotists spend more time and effort providing AFOs than any other type of orthoses, little is known about their effects on balance among users.
This course is intended to help learners answer important clinical questions, such as "to what extent do the AFOs that I provide my patient facilitate or compromise their balance?" or "how might I quantify and document the effectiveness of AFOs I provide?" This course will help to enhance your understanding of postural control and improve your ability to assess your patients' balance.
The following course presents findings from the SSC with emphasis on existing scientific evidence, relevant clinical considerations, and available balance assessment tools. Findings from the SSC are complimented with resources that can be used in clinical practice to measure and document patients' balance and clinical outcomes.
