Description
In this informative, research-based discussion, participants will develop a better understanding of balance considerations and deficits commonly present in the pediatric population. The presenter adopts a systems approach to understanding postural control and discusses the roles that postural response development, varying sensory conditions, and task type have on the development of balance control in children. An in-depth review of pertinent research highlights normal development as well as atypical development of postural responses and systems in children. The information is used to inform clinical practice with specific recommendations and guidelines for assessment and treatment. Finally, a case study is used to illustrate how this information can be used to improve patient outcomes in a real-world clinical setting. This presentation provides excellent information to allow team members working with children with balance deficits to maximize the effectiveness of their treatment.
