This presentation shares results of a study aimed at finding what relationships existed between subjects' perceptions and subsequent use of a prototype Smart Adaptive Socket System (SASS), designed to accommodate volume fluctuations.

The presentation will detail the use of a machine-learning algorithm to detect and quantify the prosthetic socket procedure by comparing the unrectified and rectified cast of the fifty lower-limb amputees in low-middle-and-income county settings.

There is limited evidence on the efficacy of adjustable sockets, however. As such, prosthetists are guided by patient preference, personal experience, and professional perception. The purpose of this study was to explore clinician perceptions and experiences fitting adjustable-volume prosthetic sockets.
