Description
Significant Factors Influencing the Effectiveness of Orthotic Treatment for Deformational Brachycephaly
Tiffany Graham, MSPO, CPO, LPO, FAAOP
In this retrospective chart review, we examined 253 infants with deformational brachycephaly who completed treatment with a custom-made cranial remolding orthosis. Presenting factors such as patient age, initial cephalic index, and prematurity (among others) were statistically compared to determine which factors influence the ability of a patient to achieve full cranial correction.
Using A Configurable Gait Evaluation Orthosis and Method to Determine the Clinical Impact of Different AFO Functional Types
Nicholas LeCursi, CO
A highly configurable, prefabricated gait evaluation orthosis capable of simulating the mechanical characteristics of different AFO functional types would be a useful tool to help determine the best orthotic design prior to fabrication.
This paper summarizes the application of the gait evaluation orthosis and method to orthotic design.
Reliability and Validity of 3D Limb Scanning for Ankle Foot Orthosis Fitting
Olivia Powers, SBSE
3D scanning systems have not yet gained consistent widespread use for prosthetic and orthotic fittings due to previous financial, technological and clinical barriers. Recently, low-cost commercially available 3D scanners have become available and are a promising alternative to traditional device fitting methods. However, the current literature surrounding 3D limb scanning for ankle foot orthosis (AFO) fitting is limited. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the repeatability and validity of multiple lower limb measurements obtained using low-cost 3D limb scanning technology, with implications for AFO fitting.
