For several years, 3D printing has been a hot topic in O&P. Patients and families see news articles and videos featuring 3D-printed devices and often inquire about whether our facilities use 3D printing in the fabrication of their devices. So how far along is our practice toward 3D printing an end-use device? When will we be able to send our patients home with a functional, well-fitting device on the same day? As a practitioner who works with both pediatric and adult populations, I often ask myself if 3D-printing technology will evolve to serve these groups differently.
