Learning Objectives:
- Understand current surgical interventions for patients with Spina Bifida, including Neurosurgical and Orthopedic perspectives.
- Summarize the rehabilitative care progression of the infant/toddler/child with Spina Bifida, including mobility aids (bracing and wheelchairs), therapy goals, and when treatments are recommended based on developmental milestones.
- Prescribe appropriate bracing intervention based on a comprehensive evaluation and joint care team assessment for the child with Spina Bifida.
- Understand other orthopedic considerations for the child with Spina Bifida and their recommended treatments (Clubfoot, hip dysplasia, and scoliosis).

Description
Learn about current conservative and surgical treatment strategies and advances in treating patients with spina bifida, including physical therapy, nursing, orthopedic, neurologic, and rehabilitative considerations, and complementary orthotic interventions. Emphasis is placed on the period from infancy through the transition to adult care to provide a holistic understanding of the care continuum. Clinicians creatively address the unique orthotic needs of pediatric patients through tailored interventions. Experts from pediatric hospitals and O&P facilities in the U.S. and Germany will present innovative clinical care approaches and highlight specific patient pathologies. This collaboration will offer different perspectives and clinical experiences resulting from the two countries' different healthcare administrations and O&P education models. The result is a fresh look at pediatric O&P care enriched by cross-cultural and interdisciplinary insights and practices.
