Description
This presentation addresses the challenges associated with prosthetic treatment for patients who have experienced trimembral or quadrimembral amputation. Culled from the experience of a rehabilitation team at a well-known rehabilitation institute, this course provides an overview of clinically relevant skills and information for this unique population. The learning objectives are reinforced in a practical way by presenting multiple case studies following patients from pre-prosthetic assessments through follow-up visits up to eight years later. In this presentation, participants will learn about pre-prosthetic rehabilitation, understand how to assess a patient’s readiness for fitting, explore basic prescription recommendations, and identify ways to help facilitate a healthy re-adjustment to life once a patient is discharged. Six case studies are presented to highlight some of the challenges of providing prosthetic treatment to patients with multiple limb loss. The case study subjects vary in age and cause of amputation to show a wide range of treatment plans and outcomes.
