Mechanical Analysis of Prosthetic Feet & How Prosthetic Feet are Studied "In the Lab" (module 5)
Certificate Program for Professional Development Module
This course talks about the structural testing of prosthetic foot/ankle systems specifically international standards (ISO 10328). It covers functional testing of prosthetic foot/ankle systems, including human subject testing, mechanical properties testing, and the surprisingly contradictory results of these two. Finally is covers roll-over shape: a new method for method for analysis of ankle/foot function and how this may help and explain the contradictory results of human and mechanical properties testing.

Description
This course talks about the structural testing of prosthetic foot/ankle systems specifically international standards (ISO 10328). It covers functional testing of prosthetic foot/ankle systems, including human subject testing, mechanical properties testing, and the surprisingly contradictory results of these two. Finally it covers roll-over shape: a new method for method for analysis of ankle/foot function and how this may help and explain the contradictory results of human and mechanical properties testing. In Summary the course eventually tells the pros of cons of structural testing, including strength test and durability test, and also the pros and cons of funtional testing including human subject and mechanical testing. It also talks about how alignment may have led to the discrepencies between these 2 test. Ultimately more reasearch is needed in both funtional and structural testing to establish guidelines for selection of prosthetic foot-ankle systems for particular users.
