High Consistency Rubber (HCR) also known as milled/rolled silicone, is a newer material used in orthotic and prosthetic interface applications. The fabrication technique allows for a variety of stiffnesses, categorized as shore or durometer and can be blended to create a customized interface for sensitive areas of the skin as well as stiffer spots for a more robust interface. Zippers, bladders, anchor screws and passages for electronic ribbon wire can be built into the interface to create seamless transitions in the prosthetic or orthotic device. Definitive interface options can include an array of finished colors and designs. This presentation is an introduction to the design and fabrication process for a clear diagnostic interface and the tools and equipment utilized in the fabrication process.
