Learning Objectives:
- Understand the technical, biomechanical, and clinical differences between the various types of non-microprocessor (NMPK) and microprocessor-controlled prosthetic knees (MPK).
- Understand the clinical criteria for selecting different types of NMPK based on patient presentation and needs.
- Understand the clinical criteria for selecting MPK based on patient presentation and needs.
This symposium will present a new classification system of prosthetic knees based on technical, biomechanical, and functional principles. The classification comprises all non-microprocessor and microprocessor-controlled prosthetic knee types. It will allow matching patients' safety and mobility needs with the most appropriate and suitable knee mechanism.
